Inspired by the deep emotions he witnessed during vinyl listening sessions held while working at the Bridgestone Museum of Art in Tokyo, Hideo Matsushita was determined to help more people experience the warmth of analog listening. He founded Audio-Technica in a small apartment in Shinjuku and began developing cartridges. His first two products, the AT-1 and AT-3, achieved great success, enabling Hideo to expand the business.
This growth led to the opening of a larger headquarters in Machida — a facility that remains in operation to this day.
Built on our passion for listening, we have grown over time to design award-winning headphones, turntables, and microphones, while preserving our identity as a family-owned company and maintaining our belief that high-quality sound should be accessible to everyone. We continue to manufacture some of the world’s most popular cartridges and remain deeply committed to our analog heritage.
